What Are Sod Webworms

By Neoma Archer

They did not tell you that they were coming. They did not even had thought of calling you up or letting you know that they were already on their way. They say that they are going to stay and they are going to stay for some time. You do not want that kind of visitor in your home. You do not want them staying. And you certainly do not want a visitor that stays and brings harm.

Your lawn is definitely going to tell you a lot of stories about such. After all, with all the care and the love that you have given it, there are some insects that sure find their way to what you proclaim to be precious to you and then claim that piece of soil to be their very own. And everything that is on or beneath is becomes theirs. That is the way with insects. After all, you just cannot communicate with them. The only thing you will know is that they are already there and they are already wreaking havoc which you certainly do not like. Right now, you are in a daze and you are thinking of what you should exactly do to make sure that they go away as soon as possible.

Are those really sod webworms? How do you know that you are actually looking at them already? Those sod webworms may look to be harmless but they can do a good amount of damage to your garden or your lawn. There are insects that are an advantage to these pieces of land but there are some like the one mentioned previously that can do a lot of chaos. You do not want them there really.

A sod webworm is indeed a worm. Its length goes to just about three quarters of an inch. It has a definitive mark on its abdomen area which are four rows of brown spots. This insect can have a body colored green, gray, beige, or brown. When you see such in your lawn or garden, start thinking about you would be able to take them out.

These insects usually are at their peak around the late portion of June right into September. So if you do notice some browning of your grass during such period and then you see such worms crawling about, then you know who the culprit is and you will know just what they could do to your lawn if you do not do anything about it. See, they actually work their way into the grass that the grass becomes unhealthy and then starts to go brown. When you pull it up, it would be easy for you to do so. Just treat the areas with insecticide and you are going to be all set. - 30228
