Scoring Free Stuff for a Flower Garden

By Sara Ninawood

Most people think of gardening in the spring, but autumn is a time to start preparing for next year's flower garden. The following article will give you a few pointers on how to save money on your flower garden.

Peonies and other perennials are usually planted in autumn, and many gardeners dig them up and split them at this time. Anyone planning a garden can usually find free perennials if they keep their eyes open to what other gardeners are up to.

Those who want free bulbs can just talk to other gardeners during autumn as they multiply during this time of year and many people will have an abundant of them.

Those who live in a big city can usually find large shows by the local garden clubs where everyone is selling garden related merchandise for cheap. By going and talking to everyone, you can even get free education.

Large garden stores usually will overstock on perennials, so look for flyers and see when they will go on sale as they make room for the other items.

Garden clubs are great for knowing people who share the same passion as well as finding very cheap plants and seeds. Of course, the free information they offer don't hurt either.

You can always collect seeds from even wild flowers and store them in a dry place for spring planting. Once they grow, no one will ever be able to tell that they weren't bought.

Every time someone changes their landscaping, there are plants being thrown away. If you come across people working on the garden, talk to them to see if you can get some for your own garden.

Certain flowers are just easier to take cared of and stay in bloom longer than others. Straw Flowers and Brown Eyed Susans are two that fit the frugal and simple gardener.

Many people buy books to learn about garden but it can become expensive. The way to learn is actually to experiment and talk to others, as opposed to reading a book. - 30228
