Why Outdoor Wall Lights Are Fundamental To Good Garden Design

By Duncan Munday

In these days of improve don't move, it pays to understand exactly what home improvements will add to the value of your property. Did you realize that simply installing good garden lighting can do just that or that installing simple outdoor wall lights is a good place to start?

Then, of course, there's the indisputable fact that good garden lighting will encourage you to make more and better use of your garden., turning it into that often quoted but less often realised 'extra room.' And with the advent of outdoor heaters, you can eat al fresco at any time of the year.

There are practical reasons for installing outside lighting too, not least of which is security. Well placed wall lights will illuminate any dark nooks and crannies where uninvited visitors might hide.

And, as ever, we can't avoid the dreaded health and safety! Wall lights situated close to garden steps, slippery paving and other hazards will stop granny from slipping over, and might save you having to pay out damages too!

You can bring light to any size garden and, whether, large or small, your territory will be far more inviting if you shed some light on it. And, as you're bound to have the odd wall knocking around - even if only those that hold up your roof - you can install lights!

Outside dining areas tend to be close to the house for practical reasons - getting to and from the kitchen mainly - and lights placed on the wall in this area will set the mood for some great al fresco eating, as well as ensuring that you don't trip up the step while carrying drinks or hot food. By choosing well, these lights will also brighten up the dull brick wall and create a focal point.

The truth of the matter is that outdoor lighting is the new black - if that's not a contradiction in terms - and is now regarded as de rigueur in the best dressed gardens and as an integral part of the overall garden design. Outdoor lights provide a simple and economical entry point - although don't be surprised if once you've dipped your toe in the water you decide you want to go for full immersion!

Nowadays your garden isn't just for hot summer days; that precious outdoor space can be used in all seasons and at all hours. And, it has to be said, when you catch a glimpse of your illuminated garden from inside the house one evening, you'll be glad you bought those first garden wall lights. - 30228
